On Their Hearts, They Walked is a collaborative work of the Gazan poet Jehad Jarbou and Gazan photographer Moayed Abu Ammouna. This book is about displacement, destruction and death, but also about love and resilience.

The book will help Jehad and Moayed in Gaza to continue to resist by creating amidst the destruction wrought by Israel and continue to do art at a time when genocide makes art a seemingly a futile endeavor. This book is a sign of Palestinian resistance, giving them a voice at a time when our own media refers to them in impersonal terms at best.

As Jehad wrote, ‘these are words among tents of displacement, bearing fragmented pain to stitch together a patched tent that clings to the hearts of those who read it. Together with Moayed’s unique artistic lens, which conveys the pain and the beauty of love despite it all - Gaza’s oxygen breathes through this book’.

All proceeds will help the author's families in Gaza

Jehad’s words and Moayed’s images blend like fingers in butter, like cut glass beneath bare soles, like a grandmother’s stories in our ears, like carbon on burnt loaves of bread. All of these elements live inside this small book, which you can place open, face down—and it becomes a little house. One that is safe, where the rain doesn’t leak through, and where resistance forever resides. — Ana Mattioli
