My Rock Stars is a series that I started as a tribute to people whose paths have crossed my colorful backgrounds and who have in common, that the main drive of their lives is the passion of their crafts: the Henna girls of Marrakech, to Gnawa Masters via British fashion designers.

The keyword in the title is ‘My’ because these are not global superstars by any means, except in my eyes!”

Two solo museum exhibitions launched this spring season feature Hassan Hajjaj’s work. The Newark Museum presents Hassan Hajjaj: My Rock Stars, including its recent acquisition of the video My Rock Stars Experimental, Volume 1, a related series of photographs, and an installation including objects from the museum’s African art collection. It is the artist’s largest solo exhibition at an American Museum to date. The Wexner Center for the Arts at the Ohio State University is also exhibiting Hajjaj’s My Rock Stars Experimental, Volume 1, in an immersive installation. The series & its accompanying video is in the LACMA (Los Angeles County Museum of Art) collection.
